Kuroyoko is an exciting new Japanese kushiyaki-style restaurant in Balham, specialising in smoky flame-grilled skewers, small plates and sake.
It's from the team behind Soft Launch fan favourite, Freak Scene, led by pan-Asian supremo chef Scott Hallsworth.
The name "Kuroyoko" translates as "black alley" or "dark side", and the restaurant aims to capture the restless, neon-lit energy of Japan after dark, inspired by Tokyo’s yokocho bars.
On the menu, you'll find delicious, smoky kushiyaki skewers cooked over Japanese binchotan charcoal, alongside small plates perfect for sharing.
Kick things off with Otsumami - light, punchy drinking snacks that pair perfectly with beer, sake or highballs. Options include crispy chicken skin, tako-yaki donut balls, tuna sashimi, and Japanese crab croquettes (Korokke).
Next, the beating heart of Kuroyoko's menu, the Kushiyaki - skewers grilled over hot charcoal in true Tokyo style. Highlights include chicken meatball in a sweet soy glaze, teriyaki oyster mushroom, octopus with scorched yellow chilli miso, and pork belly with negi, Aka miso, and Sancho pepper.
Elsewhere on the menu, you'll find crunchy pickles, fresh salads, and Takikomi - slow-cooked rice pots featuring sticky soy short rib, teriyaki salmon, and Japanese mushrooms.
To finish, a small selection of playful desserts includes chocolate fondant with matcha ice cream, kinako & milk chocolate cookies, and pineapple & shiso sorbet.

The 50% discount applies to food only and is valid until 30th October 2025. It cannot be used in conjunction with any other offers.
NB - Kuroyoko is closed on Sundays & Mondays.
