Franklin & Baines opened in the heart of Clapham on 27th February.

The restaurant combines British steak and cocktails with a lively rooftop dining and late-night scene.

Franklin & Baines is the brainchild of restauranteur Olivier Cohen, owner of award-winning south London French steak restaurant Bordelaise, and leisure entrepreneur Ashley Letchford notably of the successful chain of London pubs, The Jam Tree.

Its name takes inspiration from well-known former Clapham residents, US founding father Benjamin Franklin and Sir Frank Baines architect of the MI5 building.

The food and drinks take inspiration from Britain and America. Signature dishes include “smalls” such as BBQ corn ribs served with a coleslaw dip (£7), a variety of grilled steaks including Hanger, Flat Iron, Tomahawk and T-Bone starting at £18.50, and plant-based “big” dishes like Broccoli Steak served with quinoa salad, tomato salsa and toasted almonds (£14).

Franklin & Baines will also offer DJs and live music at the weekends, as well as being the ideal spot to catch up with friends and colleagues whilst enjoying great food and cocktails midweek and early evening.

The cocktail list features drinks such as “Franklin’s Rose”, which is Bombay Sapphire Gin with Rose liqueur, Grapefruit and Cardamon, and “Peanut Chocolate” with peanut-infused Jim Beam Bourbon, Sweet Vermouth, Cacao liqueur and chocolate bitters. The wine list features some bold US wines and English Sparkling wines.

The permanent weekly “Deals” are a staple of the offering at Franklin & Baines and will include 2-4-1 steaks on Tuesdays, Wine Wednesdays, Tomahawk Thursdays and bottomless Saturday and Sunday lunches.
